Articles and essays by John Sinclair, who managed the band MC5 and led the White Panthers and the Rainbow People's Party during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Sinclair was sent to prison for marijuana possession in 1969. A concert and rally calling for his release included John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Seger, Stevie Wonder, Commander Cody, Bobby Seale, Ed Sanders, Jerry Rubin and others. He gained his freedom in 1971 when the Michigan Supreme Court overturned the marijuana laws in response to his case. Guitar Army presents the vivid saga of the MC5 band, which had the national hit "Kick Out the Jams" in 1968. It is filled with Sinclair's colorful exhortations to the era's disaffected youth, which he felt were part of an emerging "rainbow culture." The book was designed by noted graphic artist Gary Grimshaw and includes reproductions of over 100 photographs, drawings and posters.
