The autograph was obtained in person after a show by the McBrides – a brother and sister from Glasgow. Lennon signed to the sister – “Love xxx John Lennon”. Her brother wrote the specifics on a blank University Athletic Club postcard: “21 October 1964 Odeon Glasgow Stage Door”; and on the rear, “John Lennon Rytham (sic) guitar Lead Singer “Author in his Own Write”. Illustrated by Lennon in his own amusing and unique style, In His Own Write was written by Lennon in 1964. The book consists of short stories and line drawings, often surreal and always nonsensical. It is notable in that it was the first solo Beatle project in any form. It was followed in 1965 by A Spaniard in the Works. Lennon was adept at free association and improvisation in his linguistic explorations, which can be seen in both his prose writing and a portion of his lyrics.
