The second work from the highly acclaimed author is a satire of the democratic process in Trinidad and Tobago and conveys the consequences of political change on the multicultural society post-election, a few years prior to independence. Awarded the Booker Prize in 1971 and the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2001, Naipal was knighted in 1990.
