A book blending poetry, funk, jazz, and rapping, and is notable for its significant influence on hip hop music, and for adding a sociopolitical element to black music. Born Jalaluddin Mansur Nuriddin in 1944, this New York native is sometimes called "The Grandfather of Rap", and was also one of the founding members of The Last Poets a - group of poets and musicians that evolved in the 1960s out of the Harlem Writers Workshop in New York City.
