New York: Charles L. Webster and Company, 1885. First Edition. 366pp. Hardcover: VERY GOOD. First Edition bound in the original publisher's green cloth. The cloth is still dark green with the gilt and black vibrant on the upper cover, and the giltwork on the spine well preserved. Book has minimal wear at the extremes of the spine & corners. Outer joint of the front board has minor splitting; insignificant creasing from pp 38-58, with spotting / staining on initial pages. A number of errors were discovered and then corrected during the printing of the first edition. This printing has the following important first issue points: Heliotype Printing Co. imprint is present; the heading for chapter 6, on p. 9 reads "Decided (later corrected to "Decides"); on p. 13 "him and another man" reference is to page 88, not 87; p. 57, 11 lines up, says "with the was." not with the “saw”; p. 143, line 7 down from the top, part of b in "body" is missing; on p. 155 there is a font difference in the final 5 in 155.
