Inaugural issue of this significant underground newspaper, which became one of the earliest underground newspapers to serve the civil rights, anti-war, and countercultural movements in the Sixties. The Barb, which was published from 1965-1980, mixed radical politics with psychedelic art, guerrilla comics, local happenings, opinions, reviews, advice, personal ads, and frequent calls to protest, and offered its readers an alternative to the mainstream press. In Issue #1, the front page has news on local anti-Vietnam protests, and the arrest of six Free Speech Movement protesters.
