LSD Panel Debate -- [Handbill]
- Description
February, 1967. 8.6” 11.2”. Original handbill, headlined in bold lettering ‘L.S.D.’, announcing a panel debate “giving both pro and con views by leading authorities in the field of psychedelic research”, held at the American Legion Hall, Hollywood. NEAR FINE. Very faint toning/wear.
The debate, sponsored by the Progressive Young Democrats and “produced and moderated” by the actor, Lee Bowman, included panelists Dr. Sidney Cohen, Dr. Thomas Ungerleider and Alan Watts, and was followed by “2 Great Groups For Dancing” and a “Stroboscopic Light Show” by Del Close (the actor and writer whose earlier ‘Lysergic A Go-Go’ helped invent the rock and roll light show and led to his lighting design work for the Grateful Dead). The handbill reflects a very Hollywood take on the contemporary debate surrounding the use of LSD.
