We love musician biographies and autobiographies at Bynx. In our collection are both signed and unsigned copies of these awesome books, and almost all are collectible first editions. Let’s take a look at some of them!
Tell-All Tales
These musician-made books are incredible tell-all tales of rock stardom, giving readers behind-the-scenes access to some of the most notorious and explosive individuals in music history. People like Keith Richards, Slash, Johnny Cash, Patti Smith and Kim Gordon have all penned their own personal histories, giving us unprecedented access to their lives. Each musician biography contains intrigue, struggle and creativity, while also exposing the more human side of each musician that we rarely see in the media.
Many times when reading these stories you can hear the artists’ unique voice come through each page. In Miles, the Miles Davis autobiography, his abrasive and brutally honest style is almost palpable as he leads readers through his successful, yet tumultuous, music career. Then there are a few others:
- In Scar Tissue, for example Anthony Kiedis talks about his upbringing L.A.. Surrounded by stars and drugs from a young age, Kiedis recounts how he managed to use that environment as an eventual springboard into fame with his own band, The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
- In A Cellarful of Noise, legendary Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein talks about the band’s discovery and their rise to worldwide stardom.
- Then there’s the tale of the famed groupie, Pamela Des Barres, and her autobiography I’m With The Band, where she intimately details her wild nights with rock stars and actors at the height of rock n’ roll mania.
- These are just a few examples of the books we have in our library.
Living Vicariously
These biographies are likely the closest we’ll ever come to getting inside the minds of our music idols. Their voices emanate from each page; transporting us into their respective worlds; allowing us to vicariously experience their lives of intrigue. Open one up and you’ll quickly discover there’s more to it than sex, drugs and rock n’ roll.
