“What I have to say, I say with my guitar.”
James Marshall Hendrix. We know him as Jimi. We all wish we knew him a little better, but he left this world when he was just 27 years old. Most of us are still finding ourselves at 27 — but for Hendrix, he’d already cemented his place in music history. It’s been over 50 years since his untimely death and his incomparable music catalog endures, as well as the lore surrounding his life. At Bynx, we’re lucky to have several remnants of the Hendrix era in our ephemera collection. From posters and records to handbills and tour programs, we cherish the items that preserve this period in music history.
A Rock God
Innovative, electric, stylistic, groundbreaking… Jimi Hendrix was all these things and more. I mean, you must be if you’re in the “best-guitarist-of all-time” conversation (although he might not have agreed). He’s inspired countless aspiring guitarists to pick up an axe and explore their sonic individuality. In fact, he inspired me, James, one of the co-founders of Bynx. So, you shouldn’t be surprised when you walk into our shop in downtown Orlando and see the big piece of artwork featuring Hendrix himself.
In Guy Portelli’s sculpture you’ll see a guitar-slinging Hendrix in the midst of colorful, explosive Vietnam-war-inspired imagery. The piece pays homage to the hippie era and one of its leading figures. Many of us are familiar with Jimi’s famous quote, “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” Well, this sculpture certainly captures his revolutionary spirit. It’s a beautiful tribute to the rock legend himself.
Our Jimi Hendrix Collection
Our passion for Hendrix goes deep. Again, for someone who’s career was cut way too short, he was a shockingly prolific artist. From his time as a session guitarist with the likes of Little Richard and The Isley Brothers, to his successes with the Experience and Band of Gypsies, Hendrix kept himself busy.
The Bynx Jimi Hendrix Collection contains some of the incredible artifacts from his storied career. Whether it’s a handbill for his last-ever concert, original sheet music for his songs, concert posters and much much more… we’ve got a treasure trove for all you Hendrix enthusiasts out there!
