Decades later, music fans across the globe still come together over the Fab Four
They’ve been called the most influential band in the history of popular music. Whether or not the four boys from Liverpool anticipated this enduring legacy is of no importance; The Beatles music lives on in the hearts of music fans everywhere. In fact, the group’s force is so strong, it even persists beyond the gravitational pull of the Earth’s atmosphere. There are so many treasures to be found in the world of Beatlemania, and we’re fortunate to have a few of them in the Bynx collection.
Inspiring A Legion of Musicians
It’s hard to believe a band with a career as short as The Beatles (they were active for just shy of 8 years!) would have such an impact. Yet in that modest amount of time they managed to release 12 studio albums, with many more compilations and singles besides. They each, of course, went on to have solo careers with varying degrees of success, but it’s safe to say nothing outshined their collaborative efforts. Their dizzying and diverse catalog of songs spanned everything from folk to pop to blues to hard rock. In each instance they brought undeniable creativity to the fore.
I am just finishing reading Dave Grohl’s autobiography, Storyteller (we have a couple of signed copies in our inventory), and he cites The Beatles as the reason he became a musician. That’s just one popular example. There are literally dozens of accomplished musicians who also have gone on record identifying the band as having a significant influence on their career path or style of music on that path.
The Beatles Revolution
The music is what people remember most about The Beatles, but what we find particularly amazing is the group’s broader societal influence. They were at the forefront of the 60’s counterculture movement, having a large hand in popularizing psychedelic drugs and eastern spirituality (including yoga). Beatlemania meant anything the Fab Four did, others would soon follow suit.
For The Beatles, however, as impressive as Beatlemania was, it got old fast. It led to the band’s decision to retreat from concert performances in 1966 due to challenges with the madness that seemed to accompany every performance. Ironically, however, this withdrawal only increased their popularity, and resulted in a massive contribution to studio recordings. Their constant experimentation led to groundbreaking album releases such As Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band and “The White Album”.
Beatlemania Lives On
To say that we are Beatles fans doesn’t really capture how we feel about them. We regularly listen to their music, read books by or about them, and continue to curate a unique collection of Beatles goodies. Sadly, we only have two of the remaining band members with us today. But at the same time, we are grateful that we can still see them perform and are thankful for the joy they continue to bring to our lives.
