Uncovering our hidden gems
The world of ephemera and book collecting is vast. New pieces are created, produced and distributed to people all over the world every single day. Most recipients don’t even realize they’re holding history in their hands. Of course, it usually takes a little foresight (a hallmark of that collector’s mentality) to hold onto something as seemingly trivial as a leaflet, magazine or concert handbill. Thankfully, however, these collectors do exist. You’d be surprised by the kind of uncommon, hidden gems some have collected.
Finding Our Niche
Here at Bynx, we continue to amass a rich collection of ephemera — handbills, programs, posters, sheet music, magazines and newspapers comprise the bulk of our inventory. As our focus centers primarily on music, and to a lesser extent counterculture, we are always searching for those pieces of ephemera that are uncommon and/or unique and thus are of interest to those aforementioned serious collectors and hardcore enthusiasts.
We have recently added a new tab to our website, “Uncommon Items,” to highlight the ephemera items that are just that — not easily found elsewhere. For instance: among other items, we have treasures like a signed copy of John Lennon’s “In His Own Write,” a super-rare small handbill from Jimi Hendrix’s last-ever concert in Germany, and a very cool 1966 psychedelic poster of Bob Dylan, designed by Marijke Koger of the The Fool Collective in London.
Uncommon Items at Bynx
How do we define uncommon or rare at Bynx? All of the items in this category either are unavailable from any other dealer (that we are able to ascertain) or exist in very small numbers. These special ephemera pieces were ether produced in small numbers or were indeed “ephemeral” and disappeared as years passed by.
As collectors ourselves, we love discovering those unique and hard-to-find pieces of ephemera that we know other collectors will appreciate and value. Like treasure-hunters of the past, finding something that is uncommon or rare gives us “a buzz”. Please check in from time to time as we will continue to add items from our treasure-hunting efforts!
