His Dark Materials Trilogy follows the coming of age of the two main characters, Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry, as they wander through a multiverse of parallel universes and move between many alternate worlds. Winner of numerous prizes, Northern Lights, won the Carnegie Medal for children's fiction in the UK in 1995, The Amber Spyglass won the 2001 Whitbread Book of the Year award. Pullman was awarded the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for children's and youth literature in 2005.
