Continuing the collecting tradition
Vinyl is dead, huh? Not quite. As we talked about in an earlier blog, vinyl is alive and well and has surprisingly survived the digital revolution. And there are few better places to see vinyl’s enduring legacy in action than at a record fair.
My Generation, Baby
There’s something quaint and homey about a record fair. Tables filled with vinyl, the dusty smell wafting through the air, tickling the senses with nostalgia. People eagerly flipping through record after record, in search of “the one” or “the one of many.” You’ll walk by a table and hear a dealer bartering with a hopeful customer, or hear laughter as people swap stories and reminisce over their favorite albums. Everywhere you turn there is vinyl, collectors and music lovers.
But vinyl lovers aren’t just greying elders from the swingin’ sixties. A record fair crowd is as diverse as the music encapsulated in the records for which they hunt. It’s a melting pot, a generational collision, a place where the young and old find common ground.
Hidden Treasures
Because, really, that’s what a record fair is: a place where time stands still. Treasures are abound, both historical relics and new-age gems. Everyone is looking for that special something to add to their collection or maybe, if they’re lucky, complete it.
We’ve attended a lot of these fairs, whether as dealers or buyers. In fact, it’s how we’ve come across some of our own treasures or met people who become our future partners. Indeed, arguably the biggest treasures you find at a record fair are the relationships you form with the vinyl community.
Stop By Our Vinyl Booth
This weekend, Bynx is posted up at the convention center in Austin, Texas, at the biggest record fair in the country. We’ve got a lot of goodies on hand, including our prized pieces from our book & ephemera collections and, of course, vinyl highlights from our shop.
If you’re in Austin, stop by and say hello! Or catch us at one of the many Florida-area record shows throughout the year. In any case, happy shopping!
